Music at Croydon Secondary College

Welcome to Music at Croydon Secondary College.  We have a proud tradition in this part of the curriculum and we are investing strongly in the Music program for the future.

The Music program has two sections: the Classroom program and the Instrumental program.

The Instrumental Program

The Instrumental Program is coordinated by Mrs Vivienne Doolan. She manages various ensembles, including the very well known and highly respected Croydon Secondary College Marching Band. Other ensembles are the Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Junior Band and various Brass, Woodwind and Percussion ensembles. We also specialize in the Dixieland Jazz genre.

The College employs specialist instrumental music teachers of Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Guitar and Voice. We are strongly committed to expanding the instrumental program and welcome prospective students specializing in strings or any other instrument not listed above. Of course, we strongly recommend our school. Students from all around our region attend the College to take Music, even as a single VCE subject.

The College conducts a Music students’ tour every second year. Three in-school concerts are organized for the various school ensembles each year. Two events (For One Night Only) are organized for individuals and small groups playing contemporary music.

The Classroom Music Program

Classroom Music is offered at every level as core subjects in Years 7 and 8, as elective subjects in years 9 and 10 and through VCE Music Units 1 – 4 (Group and Solo) and VET Music in the senior years.

The program is rich and diverse, catering both for students who have Music as a hobby and for students who would like to pursue Music or the recording industry as a career.

If you are new to the College, please telephone on 9725 8277 to organize a tour of the Music facilities. The opportunities to play and record music are exceptional for a school of our size.
