The Maroondah Education Coalition
The Maroondah education Coalition is a coalition of all the government secondary schools in the City of Maroondah. They are:
- Croydon Secondary College
- Heathmont College
- Maroondah Secondary College
- Norwood Secondary College
- Parkwood Secondary College
- Ringwood Secondary College
- Croydon Community School
Foundations
Originally, the MEC was a coalition of four schools, Ringwood, Norwood, Parkwood and Maroondah Secondary Colleges. It was created in Phase 2 of the Leading Schools Fund. Croydon was not part of the coalition at this stage because our school was already part of the Yarra Valley eLearning Community, YVeLC, itself a coalition of schools developed through the Leading Schools Fund.
With the introduction of new government policies, particularly, the Building Futures Policy and policies encouraging further cooperation of schools in existing networks, Croydon , Heathmont College and Croydon Community Schools participated in many meetings of MEC schools and formalised their membership in 2008.
Programs
- The MEC has achieved a great deal already, For example, together, MEC schools have:
- Organised joint VCE classes student seminars and VCE revision activities for VCE students across all schools
- Initiated changes in approaches to student teacher training in conjunction with Deakin University
- Coordinated with Deakin University a series of master classes and extension and enrichment activities for senior students
- Audited provision of LOTE cross the curriculum and commenced planning for MEC Language School of Excellence
- Planned and implemented regular MEC professional learning across the schools
The Maroondah Regeneration Project
MEC schools have prepared an ambitious submission for joint funding through the Building Futures policy. You will find details of our progress in the News section of the website.
